30-Minute Philly Cheesesteak Garlic Bread Sub Recipe You’ll Crave

Philly cheesesteak garlic bread sub

A delicious Philly cheesesteak garlic bread sub made with ground beef or shaved steak, sautéed peppers and onions, melted provolone, and toasted garlic bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (or shaved steak)
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil (if using shaved steak, optional)
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp steak seasoning (or 1/2 tsp salt + 1/2 tsp black pepper)
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 4 hoagie rolls (or 1 large French bread loaf split lengthwise)
  • 3 Tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 68 slices provolone cheese (or mozzarella/provolone mix)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil (if needed), then sauté onion and bell peppers for 4–5 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, steak seasoning, and smoked paprika (if using). Cook 1–2 minutes so everything gets flavorful and glossy.
  4. Reduce heat to low. Lay provolone slices over the beef mixture and cover the skillet for 1–2 minutes until melted.
  5. Mix butter + garlic powder. Spread inside hoagie rolls (or on the split loaf). Toast in a 400°F oven for 4–6 minutes or until golden.
  6. Pile the cheesy beef mixture into the toasted bread. Slice and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use shaved ribeye steak instead of ground beef.
  • Add hot peppers or jalapeños for extra spice.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
