one pot smoked sausage pasta

A quick and flavorful one-pot smoked sausage pasta with rotini, combining sweet and tangy flavors for an easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz rotini pasta
  • 14 oz smoked sausage, sliced into coins
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (optional, for browning)
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1/3 cup BBQ sauce (sweet or original)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for extra glaze)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt + black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown the sausage: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil (if using) and sliced smoked sausage. Cook 3–4 minutes, stirring, until browned and glossy.
  2. Build the sauce: Stir in chicken broth, marinara, BBQ sauce, brown sugar (if using), garlic powder, smoked paprika, and onion powder. Bring to a simmer.
  3. Cook the pasta: Add rotini and stir well. Reduce heat to medium, cover, and cook 10–12 minutes, stirring once or twice, until pasta is tender and sauce thickens.
  4. Finish: Taste and season with salt and pepper. Let sit 2 minutes to get extra saucy and glossy, then serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
  • For extra spice, use a spicy smoked sausage or add red pepper flakes.
  • Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
