Spicy Wonton Soup

A cozy, bold-flavored bowl of spicy wonton soup with chili oil, perfect for a quick comfort food fix or a chilly night.

  • 1 pack wonton wrappers
  • ½ lb ground pork (or chicken)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Pinch of white pepper
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp chili oil (plus extra for drizzle)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the Wonton Filling: Combine pork, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and green onions.
  2. Wrap the Wontons: Place a small spoonful of filling in each wrapper, fold and seal with water.
  3. Boil the Wontons: Bring a pot of water to boil and cook wontons until they float—about 4–5 minutes.
  4. Simmer the Soup Base: In another pot, bring chicken broth, chili oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of salt to a simmer.
  5. Assemble & Garnish: Add cooked wontons to serving bowls, pour hot broth over, and top with more chili oil and green onions.

Notes

  • Adjust chili oil to your preferred spice level.
  • Use store-bought wonton wrappers for convenience.
  • Freeze extra wontons for later use.
