20-Minute Cheesy Broccoli and Sausage Bowl You’ll Crave

A quick and hearty one-pan meal combining smoky sausage with tender broccoli and melted cheddar, topped with creamy cottage cheese.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz smoked sausage (kielbasa or turkey sausage), sliced into coins
  • 4 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheddar blend)
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese (for topping)
  • 1 tbsp water (for steaming broccoli)
  • 1 tsp olive oil (optional, for browning sausage)
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional topping: everything bagel seasoning or red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add sausage slices (and 1 tsp olive oil if needed). Cook 4–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.
  2. Add broccoli and 1 tbsp water to the skillet. Cover and steam 4–5 minutes until bright green and fork-tender.
  3. Reduce heat to low. Sprinkle cheddar over the broccoli, cover 1–2 minutes, and let the cheese melt. Season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic/onion powder.
  4. Plate the sausage on one side and cheesy broccoli on the other. Add a scoop of cottage cheese on top of the broccoli. Finish with black pepper (and optional everything bagel seasoning). Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use pre-cooked sausage for faster preparation.
  • Swap cheddar for pepper jack for a spicy twist.
  • Add cauliflower florets for extra vegetables.
